Assemblage Alchemy: Turning Found Objects into Art
Syllabus
This class will teach you how to create sculptures using a variety of found objects. If you find yourself hunting at flea markets, thrift and antique stores, or gathering on beaches and in the woods, and wish you could turn these objects into art, this is the class for you. Learn about the history of assemblage, as well as various adhesives and joining techniques to have a better sense of how to best combine materials into a cohesive whole. In addition, we will cover different transfer techniques and various finishes, incorporating 2-D images onto surfaces. An overarching goal of the class is the discovery of your own personal symbols, and a concept or narrative that drives your work. Experience not required, this is a great class for beginners. Basic materials will be provided to get students started. Instructor: Zofie King
A one-time $10 material fee will apply, which will allow students to try out various materials throughout the class to help decide what is needed for their project.
